Well it’s that time of year again when the pond looks green and murky. Here are a few tips to get your pond straight.
First thing is a 30 to 50% water change. This helps to increase the ph level and reduce the nitrate level.
Do you have a ton of leaves and debris in the bottom? Then the best thing to do is a 50% water change one week and the next week drain some water into a lined trash can, put your fish in it and then drain the remainder of the pond so you can muck out the leaves etc.
Don’t want to drain the entire pond? Then drain one third, use a leaf rake, (swimming pool type), to scoop the leaves off the bottom, then drain another third to help remove some of the hydrogen sulfide gas you just stirred up. Then refill using plenty of Pond Prime.
We sell something called microbe-lift pl to help jump start the biological cycle that keeps the green algae down and the pond clear.
