Anthias

Male Anthia in the Tropical Lagoon Tanks
Male Anthia in the Tropical Lagoon Tanks

The Lagoon stocks several species of beautiful and healthy Anthias (pseudoanthia sp.) which are often considered the prize of the saltwater aquarist’s tank.  Our Bartlett’s Anthias (not pictured) are one of the hardiest species of Anthias available in the aquarium trade. They adapt well to aquarium life and are aggressive feeders unlike other anthias species that might take coaxing or special foods to get them to adapt to their new environment and feed correctly. They must be fed at least twice a day, and require a diet rich in meaty foods that contain zooplankton.

Emperor Angel (Pomacanthus Imperator)

Emperer Angel Fish
Emperer Angel Fish

The Emperor angelfish is one of the most desired species of angels. The juvenile fish  shown in the photo, changes into a color pattern of yellow stripes and tail. They reach 15 inches in lengt,  so don’t think about one unless your tank is 100 gallons or larger.  Emperors must have a varied diet consisting of marine algae, mysis, angel variety foods, and vitamin-enriched color enhancing foods to maintain full color and not succumb to later-line erosion.

Flame Angel (Centropyge Loricula)

The flashy Flame Angel is a very hardy dwarf angel. With a max size of only 3.9 inches a Flame Angel is suitable for a nano tank 20 plus gallons in size. They are not good reef fish as they tend to nip on LPS corals, Zoo’s, calm mantles and some sort corals. Feed your Flame a variety of foods containing spirulina and marine algae as well as meaty food’s such as PE mysis.
