TIPS FOR POWER OUTAGES

If you have a power outage and no generator, here are some things you can do.

1. Battery operated air pump. These pumps take d batterys and last about 20 hours per set of batterys. Unfortunatly we are sold out at this time and expert more on Wednesday.

2. Exchange water. You can just drain water from the tank into a bucket and pour it back into the tank,  this will aerate the water

3. Water change. You can also do a partial water change to help aerate the water and reduce toxins such as ammonia and nitrate which will build up without filtration.

4. Don’t feed the fish! If you don’t feed the fish they cannot produce ammonia and the levels will not increase as much while your power is off.

Cichlids

Cichlids, where do we start? Want fish that get big and eat you out of house and home? Then the cichlid group is for you. Most cichlids need a large aquarium with many rocks and caves for hiding places so they don’t pick on each other. Be prepared to feed a large variety of foods and frequent water changes to keep them in good condition. Our staples include the well known Oscar, the Jack Dempsy, Convict,  Managuense, Hornet, Green Terror, Texas, and the Red Devil. We try our best to bring in some of the less common Central American species, but it’s best to call us for availability.
